Question about the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton?

My question about the book is probably more of a nitpick but I figured that I should at least ask because I want to see if anybody knows it. If not, I’ll just assume and make an ass out of myself. My question is, the year the book takes place in is 1965, but the Curtis brothers have a Ford Taurus which wasn’t made until 1985. Was this a blooper on S.E. Hinton’s part?

First of all, Great book!

Second of all,
They didn’t have a ford Taurus, they just had a ford truck if I’m not mistaken. S.E. Hinton didn’t make a blooper, you probably just confused books.
