English Parts Of Speech Practice Worksheets
How does one go about choosing, which goals are the important ones and which goals should not be placed on the top priority list? Recently, after accomplishing a very difficult task and goal a gentleman asked me how I prioritize my goals to decide, which ones were important?
His thinking was that if I could accomplish such a large goal then perhaps I could coach or teach other people to accomplish their goals as well. Yes, in my life I have coached other people and helped them achieve success in their endeavors.
Therefore the question he had asked; which goals are the important ones? Seemed to be a pretty good subject for an article. First let me start by saying that all goals are important and if they are not important they should not be goals. Goals are things you are working towards that you expect to accomplish.
Now some people might say that their goal is to be a better person and I would say to them is not an actual goal, because it is not refined and they have not defined what a good person is.
Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said in a very famous speech; I Have a Dream. But he did not say I have a goal. A goal is something that comes with strategic objectives with a specific time frame. Without quarterly objectives or mile markers his dream will remain a dream and until someone comes along and organizes this dream it can never be considered a goal and therefore it may never be accomplished. I truly hope someone does it would make a wonderful and beautiful goal indeed.
When asked which is the most important of my goals, I would say they all are important and therefore they all need to be accomplished. Some goals must be accomplished before other goals and certain priorities must be set to make sure those are achieved first. This does not necessarily mean they are more important, but it does mean one needs to prioritize if they are to accomplish them in the time that is needed for them to do any good.
If you do not feel that a goal is very important, then I might ask you why you have made such a goal in the first place. If you have made a goal, which is unachievable then you need to re-evaluate a timeline to see if there is another way you can get there. If the sacrifice to achieve the goal is too great and might sacrifice other goals then that goal needs to be lessened or eliminated.
This is because all goals are important or they should not be goals at all. And sometimes it takes a little brainpower to figure out how to accomplish all of your goals without having to choose one or the other. Please consider all this in 2006.
