Is it OK to put the metal plunger of a cafetiere in a dishwasher?

I’m afraid to take it apart to clean i case I can’t put it together again, and the dishwasher might get into the parts I can’t reach. I think the metal is stainless steel. Has anyone ever tried this?

Have been separating the three parts of the cafetiere – jug, holder and plunger, and washing them in the dishwasher for years – the cafetiere is still going strong and is used regularly.
